One School - Ethos & Culture

"No matter what your culture is, we're all accepted in the East Hunsbury heart." Year 4 pupil

We are proud to be a truly inclusive school. Our curriculum is inclusive by design and we are relentless in giving every child what they need to thrive.

We are one school made up of:
  • Mainstream classes,

  • Our specialist provision – The Hive

  • The Nest, our enhanced (Ordinarily Available) provision.

Children from The Hive, The Nest and mainstream share learning experiences, take part in trips, join House Events and contribute fully to school life as ‘one school’.

In our mainstream classes, we do not use setting as we do not want to put a ceiling on any child’s learning. Instead, teachers provide tailored challenge and support so all children learn well in class with their peers. Targeted interventions help us keep children up rather than needing to catch them up. Individual Learning Plans are used when needed and reviewed regularly.

We have been part of the PINS project (Partnership for Inclusion of Neurodiversity in Schools), an initiative designed to strengthen inclusive practice through collaboration, shared expertise, and targeted training. Through PINS, staff work alongside specialists, families and other schools to develop a deeper understanding of neurodiversity and to embed inclusive approaches that support the needs of all learners across our school community.

We have also taken part in wider community projects that celebrate identity, voice and belonging, including the exhibition “Who Are You in Your Mask?”. This creative project gave children the opportunity to explore and express different aspects of themselves, encouraging reflection, empathy, and acceptance. The children’s work was proudly exhibited in a local gallery, allowing their voices and creativity to be shared with the wider community and reinforcing the importance of inclusion beyond the school setting.

Our termly Chatter Matters group supports families of neurodiverse children.
