SEND

At East Hunsbury Primary School (EHPS), inclusion sits at the heart of everything we do. We believe every child deserves to feel understood, valued and able to shine. With a highly skilled team and a nurturing ethos, we are proud to offer an exceptional level of support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

A School That Understands SEND

EHPS welcomes a wonderfully diverse community of learners which has meant that we have created a school that understands SEND by placing children at the heart of all of our decisions.

Our Specialist Provisions – The Hive and The Nest

The Hive is our 50‑place specialist unit for pupils with communication, language and interaction needs. Children follow a bespoke curriculum shaped around communication, independence and interaction, with opportunities to join mainstream activities when it suits their needs. All children in our Hive have an EHCP.

The Nest is our Enhanced Mainstream provision that supports children in Reception to Year 2 who require a more specialist environment and who are often awaiting a specialist placement or EHCP. It offers a warm, structured, language‑rich approach led by highly trained staff. Both provisions work closely with mainstream classes so children feel part of the whole EHPS family.

Highly Skilled and Caring Staff

Our SEND team is led by highly experienced and qualified staff.  Staff across the school receive regular training in communication approaches, cognitive science, scaffolding and emotional regulation strategies. This means teaching is consistently adapted and responsive to each child’s needs.

We work closely with Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and other professionals and we run a wide range of targeted interventions to support language development, learning, wellbeing and behaviour.

We have two Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) they are:

  • Lindsey York - Mainstream - YorkL@easthunsburyprimary.org

  • Lucy Boswell - Specialist Unit (The Hive Lead) - BoswellL@easthunsburyprimary.org

A Community That Celebrates Every Child

We are proud that EHPS was a finalist for SEND School or Team of the Year in the Northampton Education Awards (2025) and that families frequently share how much happier and more confident their children feel after joining our school.

At EHPS, every child belongs. We champion strengths, remove barriers and help children believe in themselves.
