Sport & Fitness

At East Hunsbury Primary School, sport and fitness is a big deal. We believe that physical activity is essential for health, confidence and happiness - and it plays a vital role in helping children develop teamwork, resilience and ambition.

Our commitment to sport

• PE is taught by a specialist sports coach alongside class teachers to ensure high-quality teaching across the school.

• Our sports coach also runs many after-school clubs for children across the primary phase, giving every child the chance to try something new and stay active.

• We offer a wide range of clubs and activities after school, from football and netball to dance, gymnastics and multi-sports.

Working with the best

We work closely with local sporting organisations, including:

• Northampton Lawn Tennis Association

• Northampton Saints Rugby

• NSport 

• Yoga

These partnerships bring expertise and inspiration to our children and help us create exciting opportunities both in and out of school.

Competitions and Events

We take part in a variety of sporting competitions and events:

• External competitions against other schools

• Intra-school sports within our house teams - every year group has an assigned sport for their house competition (for example, Year 3 plays dodgeball, Year 5 plays handball and Year 6 plays tag-rugby).

These events build confidence, teamwork and a sense of belonging.

Tracking Participation

We carefully track participation and activity rates across the school to make sure every child gets the sport and fitness they deserve and need. If a child is less active, we find ways to encourage and support them to get involved.

Sport at EHPS is about more than exercise - it’s about developing healthy habits for life, building friendships and celebrating achievement. Whether it’s PE lessons, after-school clubs or house competitions, we make sure every child has the chance to shine.

Celebrating

We also love celebrating sporting achievements in our termly celebration assembly. In this special assembly we present certificates, medals and trophies - we also present our Sports Star of the term!
