Dear Families
Another super week we have had!
- REMINDER: Please label water bottles!
- REMINDER: Please make sure your children get enough sleep and switch off all devices at least 2 hours before bedtime – we have some very sleepy children in school sometimes.
Assembly
Monday’s assembly was our termly House assembly, where the newly appointed House Captains presented to the whole school community, introducing themselves to their housemates.
House Leaders
Salcey – Rachael Stryjek - Reception
Harlestone – Anna Parker - Year 3
Everdon – Rachael Linnell and Sarah Halsall - The Hive
Whittlewood – Andrew Guilder - Year 4
In the assembly, the children learnt about each captain, and it was fabulous to see the schoolwide house members being captivated by their young leaders.
In our last meeting, the new house captains were concerned that many children forget to wear their house badges, as they feel that this is an important symbol of belonging. Therefore, they have come up with the idea of 'secret house point days', where they will award points for badge-wearing. It could be any day, so please support your child to wear their badge everyday.
In our next meeting, the house captains will be finalising their plans for the Christmas events. Watch this space!
We are so proud of our House System – it really helps us come together as a community.
Aspirational
We were thrilled to welcome back Chris Mason, who is an English journalist and the Political Editor of BBC News since 2022. Chris spoke by video link to our Year 6 children as part of a Trust Wide opportunity. The children got to ask lots of questions such as 'How do you deal with people not answering your questions?' and 'How do you mange feeling nervous? and learnt many things about politics and journalism. Another inspiring opportunity for our young people which fits in well with our Careers and Aspirations team.
EHPS’ Kindness hits Westminster
Tuesday was a huge day for us! 12 children from across our school, who were randomly selected, hopped on a minibus with Mr Black, Mrs Fenton and Mrs Roberts and went to the Houses of Parliament to talk about kindness! During the day we met with our local MP, the Leader of the House and even had a private tour. We got to share our amazing work on Kindness. All of the children were fabulous ambassadors for the school and did not shy away from the tough topics. They asked questions such as: "Why are MPs so hostile to each other in Parliament? Why is smoking still legal? Do you think MPs should be more kind to each other? How to you reach a compromise when you don't agree on something?" It truly was a wonderful day filled with once in a lifetime experience and we thank our local MP, Mike Reader, for making it possible.
Year 1 Trip – Abington Museum
Year 1 were out and about on Friday when they visited Abington Museum to help strengthen their history learning all about changes over time. We looked at a collection of old and new toys, focusing on the changes in materials and technology over time, building on last term's history learning. They had a wonderful time and were brilliantly behaved. We are very lucky to have such wonderful opportunities on our doorstep.
Superhero Day
Friday was another special day for our children in the Hive, the Nest and House Captains as they all took part in a special Super Hero Event - Winter Wonderwheels which is part of the Super Hero Tri series. Superhero Tri, is the UKs only disability sports series and was founded by Sophia Warner, a Paralympian. This has meant during November, the children have been busy being active and the event accumulated in a big celebration. The children dressed as superheros and really showed their brilliance. This year we are committed to raising our sporting profile and activity rates for all of our children as their education and health is very important to us. Look at these inspiring pictures…
Have a wonderful weekend everyone,
Ms Pennington
