A reading curriculum that builds curiosity
While we raise the profile of reading for pleasure, we also deliver an exceptional reading curriculum. From Early Years onwards children receive daily phonics teaching from expert staff giving them the foundations they need to succeed.
As children move through the school, they take part in rich reading lessons focused on understanding challenging texts through talk, discussion and reflection. Every day every child is also read to by an adult from our carefully chosen reading spine which includes a blend of classic and modern literature such as The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, Charlotte’s Web and Orphans of the Tide.
We even have a performance poetry spine encouraging children to learn and perform poems by heart - an approach that recently helped us win the prestigious NPAT Poetry Slam competition.
