Woburn, London & Sports Days 27.06.25

Dear Families

What a week! It really has been a brilliantly busy week here at EHPS from trips to sports events, it feels like we have done it all. Read on to see what we have all been up to…

Assembly

On Monday we started with our weekly assembly and what a special one it was. Back in January, Mrs Robinson, along with children in Years 5 & 6 and in partnership with East Hunsbury Parish Council Seniors, took part in the prestigious Poetry Together national competition, a project founded by Gyles Brandreth supported by Her Majesty The Queen. We were thrilled when we learnt that we came runners up in the competition and in this week’s assembly the children involved, alongside the seniors performed their poem – Friendship. The poem was written together and is simply beautiful (you can find a copy of the poem on page 5 of the newsletter online).

We received a £200 book voucher in recognition of our achievement and look forward to spending it in our library.

Also, in the assembly we selected our NPAT poetry winners who we have put forward to the Trusts Competition… watch this space!

A huge thank you to Mrs Robinson who leads poetry across our school!

Multiplication Results

This week, we also learnt that the average score for our multiplication table national check was 24 - the maximum score you can get is 25 so this is an amazing achievement and is testament to the great teaching, hard work and learning from our teachers and children. Times tables are so important for our maths work and really lay the foundations for future learning. Well done everyone!

EHPS’ Adventures!

On Tuesday, Year 2 and Green class visited Woburn Safari as part of their science and Geography learning. They enjoyed a Road Safari, where they got to see some amazing animals, including tigers, lions, bears, giraffes, elephants and lots more. The children also attended 2 classes, led by the Woburn Staff - Fur, Feathers and Scales and Poo in the Zoo.

All the staff had a great day too and were extremely proud of all of the children. Thank you, to all staff helpers and to Neil for organising the trip.

Red Class had a great time at their Residential to Kings Park Centre. For some of the children this was their first night away from home independently. They had a great time playing Tennis, creating dens in Forest School, and experiencing the Climbing Wall, as well as team games and circus skills! Their favourite part was probably the food which was lovely! Well done Red Class, you were fabulous representatives of East Hunsbury Primary.

Year 4 went down to London to visit the National Gallery as part of their Take One Picture work. The children were amazed by the incredible paintings and it was an amazing experience seeing 'A Regatta on The Grand Canal" in real life. Experiences such as this really enhance the children’s learning and give purpose to our teaching.

Sports Day Fun

During this week, we also held lots of Sports Days. On Tuesday, it was the turn of our SU and Nest, Thursday it was our KS1 classes and Friday saw our Year 3 and 4 classes race!

It was amazing to see so many parents come along and the children enjoy the sporting activities and races! They particularly enjoyed earning points for their houses as the end of year competition is really hotting up now with Everdon in the lead by just 10 points.

Thank you to all of the adults who helped organise these events and to the sun for shining!

Visitors

This week we were also lucky to have members of our Trust visiting our school to see how we are getting on and what we are up to. They were really impressed with what they saw and as a school we are proud that we keep going from strength to strength.

Next week’s newsletter is an important one as it is our bumper newsletter. In it, I will be sharing staffing, results from our parent survey, reflecting on what we have done this year and some plans for next year. Please do make sure you read it. Your child’s class teacher will also be shared next Friday with their transition morning on Monday 7th July (this is also when our current Year 6 children go to their new secondary school for the day).

It really has been a busy week and I am so grateful to our amazing teaching team who are working incredibly hard to make all of these things possible for our children – they really do deserve a weekend’s rest.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. See you on Monday!

Ms Pennington
