Kind School Award 11.07.25

Dear Families

I am finding it hard to imagine that I only have one more newsletter to write before it is the end of the academic year – where has the time gone? As you know, last week was our Bumper Edition newsletter that informed you all about what is coming up next year, including staffing. This week we are back to normal with our newsletter but before I share what we have been up to – please can I remind you of our school uniform requirements which can be found on page 5 of the newsletter as I know many of you are beginning to get ready for September.

Kindness Award

Well, it’s official – we are the kindest school in the country! Last week it was announced that we won the Kind School Award 2025! This is an amazing achievement and here is what one of the judges said: "Reading East Hunsbury Primary’s submission was a genuine joy. It wasn’t just the words on the page — it was the feeling between them. You could sense a school where kindness isn’t an act but a rhythm, pulsing through every relationship. Children, staff, families, and the local community — all bound by a quiet, powerful commitment to care. East Hunsbury isn’t just teaching kindness. They’re living it. And that changes everything.”

As you will be aware, Be Kind is one of our values that sits at the heart of all we do. We promote kindness in everything as we feel it is a quality in life that can never be underestimated.

Well done everyone who is a part of our school for this amazing award and especially Mrs Roberts who quietly sits behind this value driving all our initiatives forward and who leads our wonderful Kindness Ambassadors.

Read all about it here and watch the charity’s short video here.

The week then ended most suitably with a wonderful assembly, all about Kindness, led by Vicar Griff.

Transition Day and Assembly

Monday was our transition morning which started with an assembly in which we sang Try Everything from the Disney film Zootopia and read the story Scaredy Squirrel which is all about a brave squirrel who takes a jump into the unknown. The children then had a lovely morning meeting their new class teachers and I wanted to say a special welcome to Miss Clancy, Mr Kemp and Mr Cook who are new to our school.

On Monday our Year 6 children also ventured off to their new schools and it was lovely to hear their positive stories when they returned on Tuesday. Without a doubt, change can be challenging for many of us and we are working hard to support our young people as they journey from one year group to the next.

New Intake Forest School sessions and Teddy Bears picnic

It has been a busy week for our new Reception children as this week we welcomed them to not only their transition morning on Monday but also to a Forest School session and a teddy bears picnic!

Year 5 Bikeability

Last week, our Year 5 children took part in Bikeability – a road safety programme which teaches children how to ride a bike safely. Well done to all of the children who took part which means that they can now ride their bikes to school (if they so wish) instead of walk (but they must always wear a helmet!)

Saints Rugby Coaching

This week the Saints were back in coaching rugby in year groups across the school. We are pleased that our work with the Saints will be continuing next year as the children love their special training sessions and exclusive entry to competitions.

Year 3 Residential

On Wednesday, 3CW ventured off to Everdon for their one night residential and then 3AP followed on Thursday. Everdon is an amazing trip for our children which involved lots of Geography field work and… walking! Everdon is a beautiful place and one of our Houses namesakes! A huge thank you to the staff who organised this trip and made such wonderful memories possible!

Year 5 Sports day

This week also saw the last of our sports days as we ended with Year 5s on Thursday. We have been so lucky with the weather this year! Year 5’s sports morning was another success and it was great to see a variety of races including the house races – did you know that it is a very close competition between Everdon and Whittlewood this year!

Year 4 UoN Art Exhibition

We are incredibly proud of our Year 4 children and their art work with the Take One Picture project in conjunction with the National Gallery. This year they displayed their work and some written critiques at the University of Northampton. It was amazing and thank you to the staff and their families who attended the exhibition last night.

Next week, is our first ever Brilliance Exhibition – where every child has chosen something that they believe is BRILLIANT and they are proud of to display. Please come and visit the exhibition – it is open from 3:30-4pm on Tuesday, 3:30-5pm on Wednesday and 3:30-4pm on Thursday. Come and celebrate your children’s brilliance and have a glimpse of the work they have done this year!

Also, next week, on Friday, Sara (Yr 5) and Anastasia (Yr 1) will be leading the school for the day! Sara will be your Headteacher and Anastasia your Deputy Head – I shall be their PA! One of the activities that they have decided on is that the day will be a mufti day with an option for fancy dress – those that dress up will get DOUBLE house points which is very exciting as the following week the HOUSE WINNERS will be announced!

Well, I think that’s it for now – we are certainly not slowing down before the end of term. Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Pennington
